It’s been long enough since Fiona Apple’s second (and to date second-to-last) album was released in 1999 that there are probably some more recent fans of hers who were actually born after its release. Those fans could probably be forgiven, then, for balking at the recently announced title of Fiona’s upcoming fourth studio album—which, to be fair, is considerably unwieldy and perplexing. It is as follows:
The Idler Wheel is wiser than the Driver of the Screw, and Whipping Cords will serve you more than Ropes will ever do.Tough one, sure. (For the record, Wikipedia defines an “idler wheel” as “a system used to transmit the rotation of the main shaft of a motor to another unsecured loans rotating device, for example the platter of a record-reproducing turntable or the crankshaft-to-camshaft gear train of an automobile,” if that helps.) But really, this is child’s play compared to that 1999 album:
When the pawn hits the conflicts he thinks like a kingNo, those weren’t the lyrics to a song on the album—we bad credit loans don’t think so anyway, it’s been a while—that was actually the whole album title. By contrast, the 23-word new one might as well be Take Care or 21. Plus, it even has a singular central noun to make it easy to refer to in shorthand. “Hey, you guys got that Idler Wheel in stock yet?” Much less cumbersome and weird than “Hey, you guys got that When the Pawn…?”

And he’ll win the whole thing ‘fore he enters the ring
There’s no body to batter when your mind is your might
So when you go solo, you hold your own hand
And remember that depth is the greatest of heights
And if you know where you stand, then you know where to land
And if you fall it won’t matter, cause you’ll know that you’re right
C’mon, Fiona, you used to be challenging. Quit lobbing us these softballs.
